The Alabama Rivers & Streams Network provides tools, data, and information to support aquatic conservation across Alabama. Whether you conduct research or translate science into action, these resources will help you understand and protect Alabama’s waterways.
ARSN partners’ collaborative mapping effort identified Alabama’s most critical watersheds and river corridors for aquatic conservation. The Strategic Habitat Units (SHUs) and Strategic River Reach Units (SRRUs) help partners prioritize restoration efforts in areas with the highest concentrations of rare and imperiled aquatic species. These designated areas contain much of the state’s rarest remaining aquatic habitat and guide the protection, restoration and recovery of biological diversity statewide.
ARSN is a collaborative network of biologists who conduct research and those who translate that science into action for public and private decision-making. We bring together federal and state agencies, utilities, private companies, universities and non-profit organizations, committed to clean water and healthy aquatic ecosystems. The collaborative approach ensures that scientific findings translate into real-world habitat improvements.
From dam removals to species reintroductions, ARSN partners are making measurable progress restoring Alabama’s rivers and streams. Explore stories of successful conservation projects happening in watersheds across the state and see the real-world impact of targeted, data-driven restoration efforts.
